Lipids are a broad group of
fat-soluble substances that do not dissolve readily in water. In nutrition, lipids include
fats,
oils, phospholipids, sterols (such as
cholesterol), and related compounds. They provide energy, help form cell membranes, support
hormone-related functions, and enable absorption of
vitamins A, D, E, and K.
